One week post mastectomy and axillary clearance and to add insult to injury my drain is blocked again. I did accidentally free it up yesterday when I stood on the tubing and pulled it slightly which produced 120mls in less than 2 minutes but it's happened again after the nurse changed the dressing and I freed up 50mls by jiggling but nothing since and I can literally feel the seroma building and my emotions getting even more emotional. I've left messages with everyone. The community nurse I need to be seen but sods law no-one at the hospital to help as every phone call goes to answerphone.

Definitely don't feel like one tit wonderwoman at present

  • This needs looking into urgently! Do you have the phone number of the ward you were on for the surgery? I would call them if you cannot get hold of the "right" people, or even go there if you are able to. I would definitely not leave it overnight.

Thank you. I did manage to get of one of the bcn but apparently it's normal. Ho hum. Guess they are going to go the same way as HV in my estimations - as useful as a chocolate teapot. I've got the community nurse tomorrow so I'll chat with her instead

  • A blocked drain may be "normal" but so is a heart attack after a blocked artery, and while a blocked drain may not kill anyone it still needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. From what you are saying, that nurse sounds dangerous. I hope the community nurse sorts it out tomorrow.
