Will be starting 6 3 weekly cycles on January 26th for grade 3 invasive her 2 and Oestrogen positive breast tumour 20mm spread to one lymph node!
Any advice on preparing and coping with this regime! Have a wig lady visiting me soon as I know I will lose my hair….!
Thank you x
I've just had cycle 3 for the same cancer as you.
It's tough but I've found eating has been really tough. Some well loved foods I can't stand the smell of, or tolerate in my mouth. I would say eat little and often. What I like one day I can't eat the next but fruit like pears and oranges help keep fluids up. Jelly has been great too. Someone gave me good old fashion Lemon Sherberts. They have been a godsend soothing the horrible after taste... as have the fluffy socks for when my tingling feet feel cold.
Go through your make-up and toiletries. Chemo makes skin sensitive. Get in some Piriton in case of an allergic reaction. When I needed it in the middle of the night I didn't have any. I'd also recommend getting something like Sudocrem. When the drugs leave the body I found they burnt.
I've always had thick curly hair. When it came to it I found I didn't get upset at all. My head was so uncomfortable I couldn't get rid of it quick enough. The relief was instant the minute my head was shaved. My hairs still growing and I shave it weekly. I splashed out on hats...lots of them!
I've found all the staff I've had contact with have been kind and patient. Don't worry over little things, ask. Someone will answer... and if you want a PJ day, have one!
Sending you very best wishes.
Thank you so much for replying Dilly Daydream really helpful information appreciated
In addition to this excellent post I also found lemon flavoured things more tolerable, yogurt, sorbet, fruity lollies too, porridge, scrambled eggs. Get some omeprazole in too as controlling the acid helps the nausea, eat little and often as well. When you’re fatigued try doing an activity then 10 mins approx just lying down and totally resting, no stimulation at all before you do something else, pacing yourself with regular rests helps you do more than trying to keep going for as long as you can then crashing. Good luck xx
Hi, I finished that regime last summer. I blogged all the way through treatment as it helped me. This particular post might be of interest as it's about chemo and what I wish I’d know. Good luck x
I loved your blog Irishgirl16really well written and so helpful for me thanks for the link.
