Hi Everyone, I am new to the site although not new to beast cancer.  5 years on Tamoxifen , cancer returned now almost 5 years on Examastane .

I coped with the bone pain and other not nice side effects but for the past year I have had severe bouts of cystitis every month lasting 3-7 days.  November last year I had 3 attacks in one month, 2 in December and already into first this month.  I have been suggested to by my BC nurse that I could be getting it because I am now stripped of oestrogen.  One of the side effects from Exemastane so I read is cystitis. My questions are, is anyone else suffering the same horrid problem and is it safe to eat oestrogen making food ?  Wishing you all well and thank you

  • Hello Fireplace

Sorry to hear that you are having such a pesky time with the cystitis. I am not speaking as a medically qualified person, but to a lay person it sounds like your oestrogen inhibitors might well be playing into this. I am sure that I read somewhere that we should avoid things like lavender oil which contains  phyto-oesrogen, so I don't think I would be consuming anything that is likely to make oestrogen once consumed it. I read on here that a lot of ER positive ladies avoid all dairy so that they are not taking in any oestrogen.

However, you would be best tomask your onc team.

    All the best

Hi I had the same problem with Letrozole, however, since using Sebamed intimate wash for older ladies it has been fine.I also use Yes!  lubricant and Replens, available on script.
