Hi

About to start taking Tamoxifen has anybody had a ok time with it?

  • Hello. Feel free to read the Oestrogen reducing meds thread. This site is very active so sometimes drops off the front page

I've been taking it for 5 months. Hot flushes, swollen ankles and sick days to start then I switched to taking it to evening instead of morning. The sickness tapered off and hot flushes have subsided. Everyone is different with side effects and the brand is a big player so I would suggest you see how you go and maybe change brand if you have any bad effects. Good luck x

    1. Hello Ajpy. I’ve been on Tamoxifen for 8 months now and on the whole am finding it ok. The first few days I took it in the morning I could not sleep more than 45 mins at a time overnight it was horrible! Switched to just before bed and sleeping went straight back to normal. It stopped my very regular periods straight away (YAY) and affected my temperature, I am warmer than I used to be and can get the power surges which make me v hot, but they are not bad.  One of the main things I have found is that it makes me constipated. For me however, this has been beneficial because I have had IBS for a few years meaning that I had to be very careful and not eat fruit / dairy / pulses / honey / mushrooms …. But now, I HAVE to eat these things to counteract the constipation which is great! Everyone is different - hope your Tamoxifen journey is a good one. X
  • Thank you. I'm constipated anyway oh dear.
