Chemo eyelash loss? Constant feeling of dirt in eye

I’ve recently lost a lot of head hair on docetaxel (on 5th cycle, cold capping). My eyelashes seem to still be there (v fair so hard to see!) although they look very short for some reason. But over recent days I constantly feel like I have something in my eye! Wondering if it’s because there are few eyelashes protecting the eye from dirt - is there anything to be done? Eye drops helped but only for an hour or so!

  • Hiya, I had the same when I lost most  of my eyelashes and eyebrows around round 5 (docetaxel). My eyes were constantly feeling like grit or watering. I had some gel I used at night from optician and also a heated eye mask helped as well. Also during day just kept up with the eye drops to help sooth it. Mention it to oncologist though or optician if you have one. It does ease  once the chemo ends but hopefully you can get something to ease it in the meantime x

  • Two separate things manifesting in the same area. Eye irritation can occur on chemo, and I would mentioned it to the nurse or the oncologist at first opportunity so that something can be prescribed.

Hair loss, we all know about. I lost all of my body hair on chemo, and by that I mean everywhere. Slight smile Not having to think about removing hair from unwanted places is nice, but I could certainly do with hair where I want it!  The hair started to come back after my previous chemo finished, I could see the start of eyebrows, lashes, and some other area ;) but now that I am on the new one I am shedding again. Oh well, less spent on shampoo for the time being.
