Hi was diagnosed yesterday with DCIS they say it is contained within the duct and I have to have surgery. I am completely numb. And didn't know where to turn for advice can anyone advice on what happens next?
Hi
I can understand that feeling of getting results.
Make contact with the breast cancer nurse and ask for leaflets and information if they have not given you any, have a good read up and make a note of questions to ask on your next appt, they should have given you a number to call if you need to speak to anyone, good luck
Thanks Emma I do have a leaflet just haven't had the guts to read it yes. I am the poster girl for being a coward x
On what happens next, my cautious guess would be that they will next call you in for whatever is needed in preparation for surgery. Usually they want to check certain aspects to make sure you are good to go with general anaesthesia. This is routine. In the hospital where I am, you see the surgeon in their office, get the chance to ask any questions and agree on the surgery plan.
In a case such as yours it is possible they may want to do the surgery as a day procedure or keep you there for one night, but only the team can say for sure.
At some point soon after surgery it is likely you will be seen by an oncologist, regarding whether or not you need any additional treatment.
