I was wondering if someone could help me. My mum was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer back in June. She’s now had her lumpectomy in October. My mum has just had a cycle of chemo with Carboplatin and Paclitaxel, she tells me she has extreme itchiness all over her body. I have called GP they prescribed her antihistamine and a cream but she’s not found these to be helpful, they also requested for her to have a blood test just to confirm there’s no issues with the liver or kidneys but I’ve not had chance to find out the results yet. Does anyone else experience these extreme itchiness all over their body? If so what can be done to treat this? I am currently trying to get hold of GP again but they are very busy

im worried because she keeps itching that she is at risk of giving herself a skin infection because she doesn’t stop itching

  • Forget the GP, call her breast cancer nurse. They know more about chemo side effect and can get her the prescription she needs. They also need to know this is happening.

I had some issues with itchiness with my previous chemo treatment, ended up at the dermatologist in the end, and they were able to help even more than the cancer team, which did the referral when it was deemed necessary.

  • @GreyCats i call the GP because everytime I call the chemo helpline anything that’s not to do with nausea/anti sickness tablets they just always tell me to call the GP:/

Thank you for your help I’ll be trying to get in touch with her breast cancer nurse tomorrow now
