I am waiting for notification of the date for my mastectomy. I saw my surgeon a week ago & he said I would be contacted with a date for in the next few weeks.

can I ask how long you waited for a date?  Also, did they call you or write to you. I have a daily panic attack when the post comes & there is no letter. Would be grateful to hear about common timescales & ways of being contacted. I’m not sure if I should be chasing someone or not.

  • Hi, i know all hospitals and BC cases are diffferent but my consultant booked me in for surgery whilst I was sitting in her office x

  • I rang my surgeon)s secretary to find out date after I came back from holiday to no pre op letter that I was told would be waiting fir me.  She rang me to go for pre op that day and then a phone call a few days later for appointment for surgery.

  • My surgeon also booked me in for surgery there and then when I was in their office. My op was 4 weeks after chemo.

  • My surgeon also gave me the date at the appointment for two weeks after that.Personally I would chase it up before Christmas.

  • Nothing wrong with chasing it up.

I had three surgeries recently. With the mastectomy I was told in the room it would be a few weeks, then about a week or so later I got a phone call. With my other two surgeries I was given a time frame, then phone calls to say when, with the first happening sooner than I expected and the second taking longer.

I think it varies from hospital to hospital, but I would call my breast cancer nurse if I were you, if only to get reassuarance and hopefully some definite answers.

  • I saw my surgeon and got the letter at the consultation. Surgery was 4 days later. I didn’t have time to panic.

  • I'd chase them up to ask. Christmas post is rubbish and will effect you and make worrying worse.
