Hello All. I'm at the beginning of this nightmare recently being diagnosed with an invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 2. The letter from my consultant says also the cancer is ER positive and Her2 is requested. No idea what that all means. It sounds a lot worst on the letter than what he told me in my consultation.
So far ive been told the ultrasound showed it to be around 7mm to 5mm density scored as U5, M5 and the left axilla was within normal. Ive had the biopsy, ultrasound and an MRI scan. Ive got to go back tomorrow for my MRI results. The consultant has said my cancer is at early stages and hes not expecting to find anything else from the MRI scan. However i cant help worrying there will be something else found. I had skin cancer a few years ago which involved it just being removed and no further treatment as it hadnt spread. I then ended up with a cyst forming under my lymph node scar which was then removed. Since then ive always had a dull aching pain there which the hospital have always said was nerve ending pain. I decided to put my foot down where they agreed to refer me to the breast clinic. They dont think the pain is connected and the lump was found by chance. Glad i went as i wouldnt of got my mamogram for another 5 years being only 45.
Im petrified on tomorrows results. Im praying itll just be the small lump, surgery and then radiotherapy which they mentioned i would have.
Anybody else been diagnosed with what i have and recently gone through the MRI results stage?
Thank you
Hello HeidiGirl. Welcome to the "twice blessed" club as I call it; I too am dealing with two different cancers.
The "ER positive" means this tumour will be receptive to hormon-related treatment, as it is responsive to it. E stand for Oestrogen (American spelling) and R stands for Receptor. Grade 2 is not the best but not the worst either as that scale goes up to 3. The tumour measurements you mentioned are small too, which is good, so there is every chance that your oncologist is right, but you worry is fully understood -- many here have gone through this exact phase and had this exact worry.
Good to hear you put your foot down and forced the issue. This is sometimes needed so it is good you have it in you to do.
I hope you hear the results you are hoping for tomorrow.
Hi there, so sorry to hear you are going through this. I found this early stage, of diagnosis and uncertainty, the most difficult. Once I had a treatment plan it was much better. I understand your worry about your parents and husband. My tactic in dealing with my diagnosis was to be open and positive to everyone around me, it's not an approach that works for everyone, but it did for me. Good luck with your results.
If your cancer is HER2 this may make a difference to your treatment plan. Because my cancer is triple positive (ER/OR & HER2+) I have had to have chemo alongside Herceptin injections. I will also continue to have hormone blockers in the form of tablets which will suppress my hormones for 5-10 years and hopefully stop reaccurance.
The breast cancer terminology is a whole new language so it gp an be very daunting at first. Good luck with your ongoing treatment.
Hi all. So mri results were today.
They've found two miniscule shadows one in each breast which they have said are believed to be benign. They've booked me in for an ultrasound though to be sure on Tues. If they have a suspension I'm guessing they will take a biopsy.
Glad in a way it hasn't shown up anything else thats huge and I feel better knowing this aching pain atcthe side of my breast is nerve ending pain from previous ops. I'm hanging on what he's said that they believe them to be benign. I know there's a chance that they might not but I've figured that they look at these scans day in and day out they have a pretty good idea of what's ok and not.
So glad today is over.
