Hi everyone. Does anyone know how long diarrhoea after Docetaxel last? I had it for 3 days now but can’t find any certain information about timing.

  • Hello!
It depends on your body. But my doctor just advised me to take 2 immodium after the first bout of diarrhea immediately and if that was not enough, take one more after each bout. It always settled after the second.
Talk to your oncologist if it lasts 3 days, that's a long time and you can lose a lot of liquid in your body - that's no good. You need to stay hydrated.
Hope you feel better during your next cycle!

  • Hi Zsm, have you spoken to your medical team to let them know? I've just finished 4 cycles of Docetaxel and didn't suffer much diarrhoea at all but I was told to ring the chemo hotline immediately if experiencing more than 4 loose bowel movements in 24hrs, or to call within 24hrs if experiencing 2 to 4 loose bowel movements in 24hrs. Your team will be able to suggest something to help but you should let them know what's happening.

  • Unfortunately I had it right through docetaxel. I took the maximum number of Loperamide per day. The oncologist gave me codeine  as well, which slows down bowel transit. Unfortunately for me the codeine SE were worse than the diarrhoea, so I could not take it. Speak to your oncology team and ask for help.

PS. I saw a post on here from someone who controlled it by going lactofree. Might be worth a try.

    All the best

    Thanks everyone for your reply.
I know you will tell me off for this but I don’t let my oncologist to know anything about complications I have. She cuts my treatment down because of every sneeze and im on a very low dosage now. Im just managing my problems on my own.
