I've just had this diagnosis today after biopsies and scans. Has anyone else had this?
Worried that after reading about it, the prognosis isn't good. The consultant said she thought it hadn't spread as yet, but the information I can find about the metaplastic subtype says it often spreads to the lungs and I have been short of breath and coughing for a few weeks now (not covid)
Oncology appt next week and MRI booked in but does anyone have any insight into this type of cancer?
Thanks you lovely lot xxx
Seems like they caught it in time to treat before it gets a chance to spread, but for peace of mind I would request that the shortness of breath and coughs be investigated and the cause found. If the lungs appeared clear on the scans there is more than a good chance that there is another explanation. The oncologist should be able to make the referral. If you are unsure, ask the oncologist why she thinks it hasn't spread so that you have a better grasp of what leads her to that conclusion in spite of the symptoms.
Hello, I too had this diagnosis earlier this year. Hopefully the cough is nothing to worry about but definitely needs to be investigated. I have joined 2 Facebook groups metaplastic breast cancer and metaplastic global alliance lots of support and information. There are a couple of other women on this site recently with the same diagnosis. Vx
Thank you, really appreciate the advice and I will ask the oncologist next week. Its so bloody scary - cancer was always something awful that happened to other people and I don't think it has sunk in properly yet - I just feel angry that my life has to change because of thus- silly really.
Thanks again, take care xxx
Thank you so much for the info about the Facebook groups, will look those up. I find ut so helpful to chat with others who are sadly on a similar path xxx
Hi there, my biopsies have come back and I have been informed that it is either Metaplastic or invasive ductal, still doing tests. I am having a third biopsy on lymph nodes as 1st come back “sitting on fence” and second clear. Not much information out there on Metaplastic and the information I have found is scary to say the least. Can anyone shed any light?
