Long story short but my mum hid a fungating tumour on her breast until 2 1/2 years ago.  When it was found they were talking about end of life care because it was so big.  She's had radiotherapy and on hormone tablets which have shrunk it and dried it up.  However, she's had covid in October and lost weight and had a couple of falls.  She had some blood tests and they showed raised liver enzymes so they want to do scans to see if cancer has spread.  They've told her if it has she won't get chemo because she won't survive it.  Told this news on Tuesday and I've done nothing but cry ever since... I'm so upset.

  • Hello Murphy G, sorry to hear about your mum. Covid, as well as other things, can cause raised liver enzymes but the scan results will hopefully help her doctors to find out exactly what the problem is. Does your mum have a date for the scans? Waiting for results is always a really difficult time so it's understandable that you are feeling upset. You might find a call to the Macmillan support line helpful as they will be able to offer you and your mum support whilst waiting for the scan results - 0808 808 0000 x

  • Hi MurphyG

So sorry to hear about your Mum. It’s perfectly understandable that you are so upset. Hopefully the scan won’t show that the cancer hasn’t spread, I’m keep my fingers crossed for her.

Wishing you and your Mum all the best.

    Best wishes

  • Hi MurphyG,

So sorry to hear about your mum.  The waiting for scans/results is not the best, our minds go into overdrive.  I too had Covid which caused various issues and I am also playing the waiting game.  My daughter, like you is so upset so your post struck a chord with me.

Thinking of you and your mum xx
