Hi, I was diagnosed with DCIS, had WLE surgery just over 3 weeks ago, everything went well after surgery. Last week I had my follow-up appointment with surgeon and had a mammogram only to find out that not all the cells were removed. Now booked in for this coming Tuesday to have surgery again for WLE. This time I'm having to have an upright stereo guidewire put in prior to surgery. Has anyone else had this wire procedure, does it hurt when they put it in? I just have images of all these wire/s sticking out of my breast! I had only been back at work for a week and now I'm off again, I don't think my manager is too pleased! I just hope that this planned surgery will remove all the cancerous cells, I feel so down now. Sorry for rattling on!
I had wire guided surgery. The wire insertion is less painful than biopsy. So I had to lie face down on bed with breast hanging through hole. The table raised and radiographer our breast in mammogram machine to find spot. Local anaesthetic put in Dothan I didn't feel wire. It's a fine small coil of wire. Then had normal mammogram while standing to check position. They put a bit of tape over wire and I had to drive to hospital 10 or so miles away for surgery later that day.
Hi Mar55
Eww that’s a drag, especially when you feel that your manager might not be supportive. But they may just not understand. I think it’s quite common not to have clear margins. I had a WLE in June and a wire placed. At my hospital thy did it before the operation on the same day. It sounds awful but it didn’t hurt at all. My margins were all clear as well, so it’s worth it.
Take care xx
It’s rotten when the hoped for surgery doesn’t totally work. They told me 1 in 5 need further surgery - in my case mastectomy, and I was devastated, even though I had a feeling things weren’t right. It’s a real trauma to go through surgery like that and be told you have to go through it all again. All I can say is that it’s a huge relief once they do get it all - whatever that takes. Keep your eye in the prize - to be cancer free, hopefully, in the very near future
I am scheduled to have my second WLE surgery today, should have been yesterday but the date moved to today. But I am not sure if it will take place as my Covid test result still hasn't been received. I went to a drive thru on Monday to have the Covid test and the hospital still hasn't received the test result. I didn't sleep a wink last night thinking about it. Will surgery take place if Covid test result has not been received? I really don't know what to do. :-(
