Thank you hun. I just feel so scared and worried I will need to decide what surgery to have by next week. My head hurts

  • I had 11mm of high grade DCIS in June 2015.  I had surgery (WLE or lumpectomy as many call it) in July 2015 followed by15 sessions of radiotherapy in September.  No chemo required as DCIS isn't invasive but it can sometimes be hormone driven so you need hormone tablets for 5 + years.  Mine wasn't so I just moved to annual mammograms till 2020.  Back on 3 year ones now.

What surgery choice do you have to make ?

  • I had DCIS in 2013, no chemo required for  it but I had a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy. Hopefully you will have the same surgery, you say you have to make a decision? It’s very daunting, all the best xx

  • Hi

    Sorry you found yourself here.

    I was diagnosed DCIS too.

Had mastectomy couple of weeks ago. Make sure you ask for surgery with best chance of clearance. Your surgeon can advice. You feel quite alone but many out there are going through the same. And rest assured whatever you decide the BCN can guide u and surgeons have done these procedures routinely!

Let me know if you wish more support. Many ladies here are also great with advice. The blogs are also helpful!!

Thank you. Radiotherapy sounds scary to me. Mine is oestrogen driven so I’ve been advised to stop my hrt. It’s either a lumpectomy or mastectomy. The operations scare me, it all scares me. I know I have to accept this I’m just so angry. My emotions are all over the place.

Hi Anna, I’m pleased to hear it all went well. I’ve not decided on which surgery yet. I’m seeing my nurse on Thursday. Any tips on how you got through this as I’m not coping mentally I can’t sleep and I’m over thinking all the time.
