Hi has anyone had a migraine whist undergoing radiotherapy?  There are some bright lights.  I’m in my second week of RT and had the most horrendous migraine for an entire weekend.  Just interested, Thanks J

  • Hi I am in the middle of my radiotherapy sessions and haven’t had any so far. But the additional stress could maybe be a factor? Speak to your breast nurse ? I am really trying relaxation techniques as I often find that my shoulders etc are so tense. Hope you are ok

  • Thank you for replying.  I’m pretty sure it was the flashing lights as on the very first day I felt it in my temple.  It kinda built up into the worst migraine I have had for years.  Only 8 days to go!  J x

  • Hope there isn’t any more!

  • Hi

If flashing lights are a trigger for your migraines maybe you could wear sunglasses for your treatment or ask the radiographers if they can dim the lights. Bear in mind that the room needs to be light enough for them to see you clearly on cctv outside the room.

    Hope you feel better soon

  • I had headaches for a while afterwards, could be tension but not migraines. There are some unexpected side effects I'm having muscle spasms in my back from getting on and off the table!!   Didn't see that one coming!  Hope you are feeling better.

  • Hi - I bought some blackout eye covers which help - I can still see some flashing lights but am able to cope.  I only have 3 to go out of 15.  It can get very cold when you have to be repositioned but guess that’s part of the process. No more migraines I hope!

  • I have light sensitive migraines so I’m really glad I read this post! I have some seriously dark sunglasses and some eye covers if necessary but will talk to the team before treatment so they know. Forget chemo side effects - migraines will keep me throwing up for days!

  • Hello Anabrock

i hadn’t had a migraine in years and had no idea the Radiotherapy would set one off!.  It started on a Friday and lasted all weekend and I was very sick.  I hope I haven’t scared you Anabrock but please do cover up if you are light sensitive.  Good luck xxx
