Has anyone had an onco score of 25 and has gone onto have chemotherapy- would love to get some feedback

  • Hi Eirian welcome to the forum. I dont know a lot about the Oncotype Scores but 25 does seem to be very borderline.

Is this something that you can ask the Oncologist or have they already suggested Chemo to you or not?

I'm wondering if no one is able to help with this one for you if you might like to give the Macmillan Line a call as they may have information that they can give you about the Oncotype Score and what they all mean.

  • Hi Eirian

My Oncotype score was 32 and my Oncologist advised chemo. I had 12 cycles of Paclitaxel and 3 cycles of EC - I finished chemo in April 2019. I also had 6 monthly Zolendronate infusions (bone strengthening treatment) which I finished in July this year. I’ve just had my third clear mammogram result today.
I hope all goes well for you.

Eirian this was going to be a score I didn't want ! As it happened my score was 38 . If mine had been 25 and I was given a choice I would have had the chemo just in case X  but individual decisions must be made I wish you well .

    Take care

  • Hi Lynn, thanks for replying and that’s fantastic new you had the all clear today. Take care x

  • Thanks for replying Jayne. I didn’t want 25 either. I think I’m going to have to make my own decision now as it’s boarder line. Seeing the oncologist on 13/10. How are you getting on? I had read in another post you had an onco of 38 do you have a treatment plan now.  Take care Sian x

    Hi Eirian,

Yes 38 what a bummer but 25 would have been worst for me . I really feel for you having to make this decision.  The oncologist delivered the news to me that I need Chemo when I asked her if after bilateral mastectomy and node clearance I still had cancer she said no that's why I'm only having 4 cycle's of EC chemotherapy.  To prevent it coming back . It will bloody  well half  kill me I'm sure but I can get through it. Just had a physiotherapist appointment and she said  exercise with  chemo helps a lot so still got to try and do some classes with her.  Just got my  wig I have to laugh or I will cry !

  • Ok so now you have a plan Jayne. You will get through it one step at a time look how far you have come already after your surgery. I have my appointment next Wednesday so I hope to have a plan then If chemotherapy is offered I will take it as I don’t won’t it coming back and my sister has had bc too. I wish you all the best in your treatment. Take care

    Hi Eiran

my onco test score was 27.  I was told that 25 and under they wouldn't normally suggest chemo and as mine was 27 it was my choice as to whether I have chemo or not.

As my BC was a recurrence in my left breast in April 2021 having previously been diagnosed in 2013 and given that It hadn't spread anywhere else I decided with my oncologist to go for chemotherapy to  clear out any lingering cancer cells.  I am into the second of 4 cycles of docetaxel and cyclophosphamide, it is hard but I am hoping it will help extend my life expectation with the other treatments planned.
