Hi everyone

Who here has been on tamoxifen and zoladex and can share experiences with side effects?

I’m 31 so the menopause scares me a bit. I was on tamoxifen for a week and a half before 1st zoladex injection and was fine but since the injection it’s floored me. I was due on a period last week which never came so I presumed it was down to both medications… but I’m bleeding heavily now, I’m presuming period?! Does anyone know if this is normal?

Thanks and hugs to you all xoxo

  • Hi sorry no one has responded to your post.  By replying to you it will bump your post back up to the top of the list where hopefully someone who has an answer for you will see it this time.

There is a thread CLICK HERE on oestrogen reducing medication that you can look through and post on that might help.

There is also a conversation HERE titled 'Zoladex to protect ovaries' which you might find useful.

I am only on Tamoxifen and don't have any experience of zoladex.

Hope your symptoms improve.  My oncologist told me any side effects from hormone reducing meds can sometimes take a good 6 months to reduce and settle.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hiya, big hugs for you too,

I'm not taking zoladex but had a good ole think about it and read lots before declining. Just on tamoxifen now.

To me (not an expert) it sounds like it could be normal to have an irregular bleed early in your zoladex treatment . Such a big change to your hormones would take a while to settle down.

BUT but but if you are in any doubt do ring your breast care nurses or the Macmillan helpline and talk through it with them - they will have loads of advice and experience to share.

  • Hi I have been on tamoxifen and zoladex for almost 3 months, the idea was to stop my periods, which it has. However, I am have tingling and pain in my hands and feet which is really awful and hot flashes (but can deal with those).  I am trying to understand what my chances are of cancer coming back if I stop the medication.

  • I started on tamoxifen at Christmas. ( I’m 46) I didn’t have periods for 3 months , but then I started bleeding heavily . I couldn’t leave the house it was so bad. This happened twice. My oncologist suggested I started on Zoladex injections and I have to say that I’ve felt much better since combining the two. The bleeding has (so far) stopped. I’m having scans done on Tues to check my pelvis and uterus. I think it’s procedure as tamoxifen can change the lining of the womb. It’s worth mentioning to your Oncologist as I think they like to monitor any unusual bleeding.
