I was diagnosed with Invasive Breast Cancer in January. I had DCIS, and embedded in it were 2 tumours; both oestrogen and progesterone receptor positive. The bigger one was HER2 positive and the smaller one was HER2 negative.
I had a mastectomy in March which was pronounced "curative", and my sentinel nodes were all clear.
I started EC-T chemo in May and just began Herceptin to treat the HER2 positive. I will be on Letrozole for the ER+/PR+.
But it just occurred to me that the HER2 negative cancer hasn't really been addressed, other than removing it. I'm now worried about recurrence statistics.
Googling doesn't help, because it only gives details and statistics of either one or the other, not both.
I will ask my oncologist, but I just wondered whether anyone else got/had both types?
Hi RedSquirrelsNuts and a very warm welcome to the online community
I don't have the experience you need but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This is possibly because this is such an active group that it has slipped off the first page before someone who has had both types of breast cancer has seen it. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.

Hi
This chemo regime you are on is the standard breast cancer one, used to treat triple negative, HER2+ and ER+. It is unlikely you would have even been offered chemo for the ER+ tumour (if you hadn’t also got the HER2+ one) The main treatment for ER+ is Tamoxifen or an AI ( Letrozole in your case) and you have no spread to the lymph nodes, so you are being fully treated for both these tumours. Mine was one tumour but a mixture of HER2+ and ER+ , and my HER2+ “trumped” the ER+ in terms of treatment, similar to yourself.
A lot of cancers are a mixture, my friend has a mixture of ER+ and Triple negative, she is on the same regime as you.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much Jo. That helps a lot.
I hope everything is continuing to go well for you. x
Yes I’m really good - 5 years since diagnosis this week , when I was where you are I would have given anything to know I would be writing that - but you will get there.
Have you had a reconstruction?
Good luck with the rest of your treatment,
Jo x
I'm so glad for you!
No reconstruction yet. I'm halfway through my chemo, with the possibility of radiotherapy to come. I'm right on the radiotherapy borderline so the oncologist is going to give me his opinion at my next telephone consultation in 3-ish weeks.
I don't know how I personally feel about reconstruction. I'm actually quite happy the way I am at the moment, and so is my husband, but I haven't had any holidays, swimming, low-cut or sleeveless tops to think about yet. I'd be happy to have any better reasons pointed out to me why I should put myself through yet more surgery and recovery!

I am premenopausal and I was recently diagnosed with IDC 3mm HR+/HER2+ and IDC 9mm HR+/HER2-. Both were low grade. I had bilateral mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy that found no lymph node involvement. Due to small tumor size, low grade, and no nodes involved, I was also implied "cured" after surgery but for me, they said traditional chemotherapy was not needed and wouldn't benefit me and instead for recurrence maintenance, take Tamoxifen for 5years. I inquired about the HER2+ status being unaddressed, and Oncologist is looking at Herceptin options by themselves. You mentioned EC-T and Herceptin was for your HER2+. Did you research any other options? Was there something else you were expecting or ended up doing for HER2+?
