Hi everyone! I'm a 50 yr old Mum to 3 lovely kids and an married to the l love of my life. I have been diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer of my left breast, ER positive, bone metastases spine, left illiac crest and sternum) and a solid mass on my left ovary. I have been referred to Weston Park in Sheffield and have my first appointment with the 'big guns' tomorrow! I will gladly take any kind words of support and encouragement. :-)
I am sorry you have been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. It’s a horrible shock to find you have metastasis, especially if you weren’t previously being treated for primary breast cancer. There have been huge developments in breast cancer treatment and whilst ER positive metastatic cancer isn’t curable, it is certainly treatable. I hope some people with similar cancer come and share their experiences. I have metastatic breast cancer, but mine is tnbc, with very different treatments. Try to think of it as a chronic disease to live with.
My niece is a paediatrician and did a lot of her training in Sheffield (she is now a consultant elsewhere) and has very high regard for Weston Park. I think it’s a dedicated cancer site so it will feel calmer than if you were in the Royal Hallamshire. I am sure they will take very good care of you there.
