Hey
I did another post on here earlier this week… following a referral from my GP I went to the breast clinic this week, the consultant and radiologist pretty much told me I’ve got cancer and discussed different treatment options following a mammogram and ultrasound.
during the ultrasound I had some clipping, after I saw the consultant he said when I stood up he could see what he thought it was and discussed options depending on grading from the biopsy result and I have a CT tomorow. The consultant said he was concerned at activity in the lymph nodes.
i called the breast cancer nurse today about my dressing and she described the lump as “2cm suspicious lump”which isn’t what the consultant said. I also had a friend say consultants can’t diagnosed cancer without a biopsy.
So confused! Has the consultant worried me unnessecerily or do we think he’s right and has anyone been told at ultrasound it’s cancer?
sorry for the q’s, thanks x
Radiologists are usually very experienced and most of them can tell a malignant mass (tumour) from a benign one based on what they see. They, however, cannot be 100% sure about what appears to be a suspicious area in your breast without a biopsy. Biopsy is also needed to see what grade your cancer is or, in other words, how abnormal the cancer cells are. The nurse said 'suspicious' for the same reason - without a biopsy they cannot be 100% sure it's cancer. This is the routine procedure. Of course there is a chance they might be wrong, but as Coddfish mentioned in our previous exchange, it's better to be prepared. Apart from that, 2cm is considered to be a small tumour which is good. Once again, fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow!
Lana xx
