Hi, new on here, Feeling quite low, had a biopsy a week ago  and was told I had cancer straight away (is this normal before you get results?).  2 lumps in one breast where it has gone to 2 nearby lymph nodes.   I'm disgusted with myself as I missed my two previous mammograms,  so no idea what stage it is. Absolutely terrified and I dont really have any outside support.  My results should be due start of August.

The doctor just said it was 'treatable '.? It all happened so fast I couldn't take anything in.

I've been keeping it all inside  but the anxiety is taking over.

Take care everyone x

  • Hi there - I'm so sorry this has happened to you - I was diagnosed at the beginning of July - and at the biopsy and ultrasound appt I was told 'I wouldn't be surprised if its cancer - and also told its 'treatable'. So when I got the results of the biopsy it confirmed the cancer grade (1 so I feel lucky) and then I had an MRI to figure out size of the lump (larger than first thought) - so I too felt dumb that I didn't notice a 5cm tumour in my boob - but TBH I still can't detect it - so please be kind to yourself - you know now and cling on to the 'its treatable' part. Once they've got all your results you'll be presented with treatment options - and they'll explain everything and you can ask all your questions - and take into account your preferences. I know you said you don't have much support - well we're all here for you - and the boob nurses will do everything they can to help you too - my friends have been incredibly supportive - tho none live close by. I have a whatsapp group where I update them all. I know this is scary - just take one day at a time - and please please be kind to yourself xx

  • Hi

I am sorry you are facing a breast cancer diagnosis. They are very experienced at looking at images from ultrasounds and mammograms so do usually know what they are looking at. It seems common to be told they think it is cancer at the biopsy appointment - I was too. As  says, the biopsy will tell them the grade and what receptors, if any, the tumours have. It’s possible they may want to do other tests or scans before you get a treatment plan. Please try not to beat yourself up over the missed mammograms. Just because they think it is in 2 lymph nodes doesn’t mean it has spread, and even if it has, there are treatments. It will seem easier once you have all the information including a treatment plan.

  • Hi, thanks for your kind replies.

I just got the results confirmed results by telephone.   2 tumours 13mm & 18mm.  Also have cancer in the armpit.  The nurse could not  say too much I suppose. I have an appointment scheduled for 7th Aug ( 2 weeks today) to discuss results and treatment. I've got to try hard not too google too much.

    • Take care everyone  x
  • I’m in the same boat x mammogram and ultrasound confirmed cancer even though biopsies taken at the same time. I guess it’s good the Drs know cancer when they see it! My results day is Friday although annoyingly the MDT meet today to decide what needs to happen next! I’m finding the best thing to do is let my family/friends know what’s going on- I have a plan for each day this week to make sure I don’t doom scroll (at least for too long!)
