I'm hoping to connect with people who have a similar diagnosis to mine.
I'm 41 years old and have HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer with bone metastases. I completed 6 months of chemotherapy, and for the past 5 months I've been on hormone therapy with Anastrozole.
The thing that weighs on my mind the most is that whenever I ask my oncologist how much time I might realistically have, I never get a clear answer. I understand that no one can predict the future, but living with that uncertainty is very difficult.
If anyone here has a situation similar to mine, I would be so grateful if you could share your experience. How long have you been living with metastatic breast cancer? What treatments have worked well for you? I'd really like to learn from your experiences, find some hope and encouragement, and know if there are any important questions I should be asking my doctor.

I have metastatic breast cancer but it’s tnbc and my cancer spread to my liver. I have been living with it since 2022. Treatments are cancer specific, so your oncology team is best placed to give you an idea on what treatments might work best for you and how many possible treatment lines are out there for you. Once I had got over the initial shock and the inevitable doom scrolling, I decided I wouldn’t ask for a prognosis. I try to live in the moment as much as possible, but as time has gone on and I have remained in remission, I feel quite a lot of hope for the future. I don’t want my oncologist to dash that hope for me. Once you hear a timescale you can’t unhear it and it becomes a use by date hanging over your head. If your cancer is currently stable, and the treatment is bearable, then try to sit with that for a while. The time to worry a bit more is if/when you have some progression or you can’t live with the treatment side effects.
