Hi everyone, I am a healthy 51 year old and got diagnosed with breast cancer in May. I found a lump in my right breat and, after what seemed like an interminable wait for a mammogram and other one for biopsy results, I had a lumpectomy at the end of May. I waited three weeks for pathology results (surgeon was on leave) and thankfully margins were clear (but close) and there was no lymph node involvement. I am now waiting on an appointment with my oncologist for oncotype results which is scheduled for 11th August. That will be 11 weeks since surgery and I feel like my life is in this weird holding pattern. I am doing my best to live normally and am back exercising, socialising and enjoying the sunshine but feel myself getting antsy while the waiting continues. If anyone has had a similar experience, it would be good to know. I asked if it would be possible to get an earlier appointment but it looks like I will just need to have patience.
The waiting feels interminable. I waited from 27th may when I got results until 14th July to see my oncologist. Now I'm waiting for a date to start my chemotherapy. Every time the phone rings I jump hoping it's the hospital.
I was never told an oncotype but he did tell me the recurrence rates with and without chemotherapy which was hard to hear.
I hope you get a start date soon - once you are in it you will get through it!
