Hello everyone. Well this is a place I didn't think I'd find myself in! It's a hell of a shock isn't it!!
I found out last Friday after finding a lump beside my left nipple. Had the the tests, and have appointment next week for the treatment plan. One of the biopsies was taken without the area being fully numb...oh my gosh the pain!!!
I'm also due to have a follow up smear next week after finding abnormal cells last year and I'm terrified that will be positive too!
I've told family and friends, that's a toughie. They all want to support and help but I have no idea what that even looks like! I've cared for other people go through a cancer journey but being on this side feels unreal.
My other concern is work, I'm 58 and currently working my notice with my employer of 25 years to start my dream job in a new place. The sickness pay is the same but I'm constantly swapping between staying where I am, where I know and where I would go back to after treatment, within my comfort zone, and starting a new job with people I don't know and literally walking in the door saying Hi and then going off sick. I've told the new place and if course they said it's ok they'll support me but that won't be the same as from people I know. Also going to learn a new job, it's the same field but different. Will I have the same energy and commitment as I had when I applied. It's 1:30 am and can't sleep for thinking about this and making the wrong decision.
I hope everyone is doing ok in their own way. It's great to know this community exists to support and help in ways other people can't.
