I am getting quite ill on chemo and the decision is do I carry on with it or wait and see what happens with a lower dose

  • I’m on a 20% lower dose at the moment recommendation of my oncologist. Having regular scans and so far so good. My side effects from chemo were very good for a year but now after 18 months I have developed neuropathy which is so annoying.
I think that although the choice is obviously yours I am always guided by the oncologist because they know what is best for you. Good luck and I hope your feeling better soon.

  • Thank you they said try one more lower dose and see how i go

  • I know it’s scary when it is surgested and it’s not something that you can instantly decide but I’m sure that you will make the right decision for you. Maybe a phone call to your MacMillan nurse might help you .

  • Hi

I am sorry you are suffering bad side effects on chemo. I take it you have discussed these with your oncology team and it is their suggestion to try a lower dose? You don’t mention which drug and which side effects - could you share a little more so others can help you from their experiences, please? You can add this to your profile to save repeating yourself.

It might also depend on how many doses you have had / have to go, and whether there is a plan to move to another treatment at the halfway point of your chemo. Lowering the dose probably won’t affect efficacy greatly, but combined with other actions to manage symptoms, could make it tolerable. Your oncology team are the best guides - they will have seen it all before.
