Hi everyone!

So I'm diagnosed with PHTS (PTEN syndrome) putting me at higher risk for certain cancers including breast. I've had MRI on high risk screening programme invited back in for further scan and biopsies.

Preparing for results in over a week and preparing for the idea they might bring up preventative mastectomy even if biopsies are alright as I'm high risk.

Just checking in if anyone else also deals with PTEN gene mutation and otherwise how long do you usually expect results appointments to take if they end up discussing plans going ahead?

I've already dealt with thyroid cancer so let's see what goes on. Sweat smile what is normally a waiting time for mastectomy in the UK?

  • Hi there, I'm one of the champions here in this group and I wanted to acknowledge your post as I noticed you haven’t had any replies yet.  Whilst you!re waiting for someone with the relevant experience, don't forget you can always have a chat with the lovely folks at the Macmillan helpline.  They are available 8am to 8pm daily on 0800 808 0000 and they might have some advice on your questions. Best wishes

  • Hello I also have PHTS. I am just about to start on a surveillance plan. I am being referred for ultra sound scans on my thyroid & kidneys and was told 4-6 weeks and a dermaotology check & colonoscopy could take up to 9 months.  I had endometrial cancer many years ago and breast cancer last year. This was before my diagnosis. I am going to have a preventative hysterectomy later this year. I was asked when i'd like it & told id be a good candidate if anyone pulls out or can't have surgery they will call me up. But as i'm not an emergency its mainly when the hospital can fit you in. I had a lumpectomy for my breast cancer which i am currently OK with. It's a lot to take in with all the risks isn't it? Good luck on your journey. Happy to chat more if you like x
