Hello
I am having a wide excision lumpectomy and sentinel lymph mode removal in April. Please could I ask about the scarring and did you need radiotherapy afterwards? If so did you need physio to prepare you for radiotherapy?
Many thanks
Sandy
Hi Sandy, I had this op in Oct 24. I think your questions depend on the method your surgeon uses and where your lump is and then also your personal fitness. I had to have a further surgery in Dec 24 and have a very long scar from that but now all my scars (so from both surgeries) are barely visible. It’s good to do the recommended arm exercises (and general exercise) from before your op. If your surgery is scheduled for April you have time to improve your overall fitness and that will really help your recovery. Your breast care nurse should be able to advise you about the method your surgeon will use and where your scars will most likely be.
I had radiotherapy and this caused some tightening of my bigger scar and in breast tissue and so I had some scar therapy sessions to alleviate this.
I was so scared before that first operation but honestly, I healed very quickly and was up and about straight away. Hopefully you will have a similar experience.
