I was diagnosed with Grade II invasive ductal cancer in late November. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsies on 12/12/25.
My next appointment in breast clinic is next Friday (16/01). I was hoping someone may be able to give me an idea of what I need to ask/what might be discussed. I am, I must admit, terrified of what I may be told. Thank you
Ask what happens next. The answer might include all or some of radiotherapy, adjuvant drugs and infusions.
Ask about options, alternatives, length of treatment and what side effects and further tests might be necessary.
Take a notebook listing any questions and to write down what you’re told. It’s difficult to absorb/remember everything.
Have you had any contact with a BCN? They have lots of info covering things like options etc
I hope it goes well
SSE thank you.
Radiotherapy has been mentioned, in passing, but nothing definite.
My BCN doesn't seem to have time to talk, I spoke to her on the phone this week & mentioned my pain, but she just said the clinic is open for walk ins, didn't offer any advice & couldn't get off the phone quick enough, so unfortunately I now don't feel confident asking her anything.
I would be interested in different options to radiotherapy, the oncologist didn't suggest any alternatives in my previous appointments
Have you tried the Macmillan Support line? I have only good things to say about every Macmillan service I’ve accessed
iI know everyone’s experience is different but it may ease some of your fears if I tell you I found radiotherapy quite straightforward, pain free and so far no side effects.
They will tell you whether the sentinel nodes had any cancer in them then they will refer you to oncology to discuss your next treatment. The breast clinic never told me what treatment I’d be having it was when I was referred to oncology they recommended chemo, radiotherapy etc.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
