Halfway through chemo

Morning everyone

i had mastectomy, reconstruction and reduction in May; started chemo in July and just about to have my 3rd session of the Red Devil tomorrow,

My question is about the ongoing side effects of having Herceptin injections for a further 15 months. What is it like? Will I still have side effects and ‘lose’ several days or does it minimise as time goes on? Particularly worried that my hair won’t grow back!

  • Hello! Great news you’ve reached halfway Tada herceptin/phesgo is a walk in the park by comparison. Make sure they inject it as slowly as they possibly can. My leg was a bit stiff afterwards and I got a big red slightly raised mark but that was it, no other side effects for me. I have a busy, strenuous job in a primary school and didn’t need any time off, other than to have the injections. My hair grew back very well, I think it was slightly slower than my friend who wasn’t on herceptin but if was thick, full coverage and was fine. All the best to you x

  • Thank you - that’s reassuring

  • Well done, you are halfway through.

I have to agree with Anna12345

Phesgo is a walk in he park compared to chemo. I, too, work with children and have not had to have any time off,

My hair is also growing back, which is great. A little drier than previous hair and quite a few curls that I didn't have before!!!

Dont worry you will do fine.

    Wishing you all the best.
