Hello
Recently diagnosed with stage one Ductal breast cancer. I went a lumpectomy last week. The surgery itself was okay and I was discharged early evening within one to 2 hours. My breast swelled up significantly after speaking to the ward. They told me I needed to go to A&E. Upon arrival I was examined and moved to an emergency assessment ward the whole time my breast was still swelling and the pain was awful. Following morning after seeing my Breast consultant, it was decided that I needed a further operation to remove a haematoma. They carried out the operation and I was allowed home later on that day. My question is if anyone else has had this happen and how long it takes for the swelling and bruising to go down and the pain to go. I have never seen bruising as dark as this and my whole Breast is almost black.
Hi racheljane welcome to the forum.. I'm thinking that you have had 2 lots of surgery to the same breast in a short space of time. That in itself would be traumatic enough, but to then have a huge haematoma requiring removed as well and which could have been deep into the breast tissue is super traumatic..It's maybe not too surprising that there is extensive bruising and this can take a few weeks or even months to fully settle..If you are at all worried please do get back in touch with the breast care nurse. I hope this settles down soon for you and you get some relief. Best Wishes Gail x
