Hi,
I had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy a week ago and still feel sore. Thought I'd be ok by now. I'm following the post-op exercises. How long does it take to physically recover? What are people's experience of it?
Hope op goes well today. 72 hours since mine absolutely no pain at all, not taking pain killers, today I had a shower and washed my hair ( was careful to keep dressing dry but found it easy) used hairdryer bit awkward trying to keep arm below shoulder height but managed. Feel great.
Think everyone’s pain tolerance is different but I think my surgeon must have been really good because apart from a small amount of swelling under arm I don’t even have bruising.more bruising on my hand where cannula was.
fingers crossed you are the same x
Hi there, I really wish my outcome was as good as yours. They bandaged me up and obviously to tightly then put my sports bra on top, I didn't sleep a wink, it feels Iike my ribs are being crushed. Tonight my son is taking it off ( he's a nurse) so hopefully if the swelling has gone down he won't have to put another one on.
Suffering alot where they took the sentinel out, that feels really swollen and hurts but hey ho the cancer is out so that's the main thing. XX
Good morning Silvabell, 2209, ACharge and everyone else who recently had surgery, how are you all feeling now? I hope you're recovering nicely and feeling better it's out
I had a Magseed inserted yesterday which went so much better than I thought, very caring lovely staff and much better than the biopsies. Silvabell, your advice was brilliant, I mentioned I was nervous when I went in and the person looking after me was very caring. I also asked if I could have enough local anaesthetic and I didn't feel anything.
I'm wearing a supportive Marks GoodMove post surgery medium support sports bra and that has helped.
I think my op is tomorrow, no letter yet but hopefully will be contacted today.
I'm feeling very anxious about tomorrow, though. Partly because I don't know what time etc. and mainly because I'm scared of the general anaesthetic and worrying whether it will all be removed. Same worries as us all.
I'm still feeling grateful it's being done so quickly, 4 weeks from my diagnosis.
Wishing you all a happy healing day
Hi
I am now 2 weeks post the op. I had a 3.8cm lump removed from my left breast and sentinel node biopsy.
It really wasn't as bad as I had imagined in my head. The wait in the hospital wasn't nice as I got there at 11am and went to theatre at 4pm. I was scared of the general anesthetic too as I've never had it before and illegic to various things but the anesthetist was lovely and explained his job etc. I was reassured that there were about 10 staff in the theatre and they all made me feel as relaxed as can be.
I went dizzy and blacked out and then the next thing I knew I was in the recovery room. I felt a bit tired and light headed but had loads of water, a cup of coffee and a tuna sandwich and 3 bourbon biscuits and then was fine. Was home for 8.30pm.
I have only needed paracetamol and took them every 4 hours for first 3 days and I felt no pain....then I started just taking them twice a day and then just before bed. From 1 weeks I haven't taken any.
I have worn my support bra all the time and done walks and chores around the house. The exercises have been fine too, have been doing them 3 times a day. Not driven yet but going to try Friday.
I can take the steri strips out Friday and my follow up appointment is next Wednesday 16th.
I obviously hope there is no cancer in my lymph node as it would be great to move onto chemo next without another operation but I have prepared myself and I am not worried about having a other operation at all now.
Tey not to worry too.much. like me it's probably much worse in your head than in reality.
Good luck. Xxx
Good luck for tomorrow, you're gonna do fine. I was sick after the general anaesthetic, but out of nine people in the recovery room I was the only one, typical me. Because I'm very large busted I'm having a bit of trouble with the swelling plus I have got a lovely black boob, but im sure that will all calm down in a couple of weeks, well I'm hoping it does.
Hi MissP6
Well done! The Magseed bit is done
I️ was dreading my operation so kept telling all the staff who were very supportive. Other patients were nice too, having a normal conversation helps at times like this, even managed a laugh about where the toilet light switch was!
Before falling asleep I remember saying " I'm terrified" to the anaesthetist The next thing I woke up refreshed, it was over.
I had a lot of bruising afterwards but I think my tumour was awkwardly situated. I have felt fine for a couple of days now. (tomorrow it will be 2 weeks)
I do worry if they removed all the tumour, but was told I would need radiotherapy and endocrine therapy after the operation. I'm waiting for appointment dates at the moment.
Good luck tomorrow, it will soon be over. It sounds like you're prepared with your sports bra which is good ( I also took an overnight bag). You'll need a dressing gown to cover your hospital gown for walking to theatre.
All the best. Let us know how you get on
