Hi I'm new to the group , I have finished 6 rounds of Chemotherapy and am waiting on surgery now , just wondering if anyone had the same result as me , Chemotherapy hasn't really reduced my tumer so probably looking a full left breast removal now instead of lumpectomy, I'm also thinking of putting off the reconstruction for a year or so or anyone else put off reconstruction ?
Hi TinaJ
I’m sorry to hear your diagnosis.
I had the same diagnosis as you back in January. Like you, I had 6 cycles of chemo and I had mastectomy surgery a couple of weeks ago which I am recovering from.
I haven’t had immediate reconstruction surgery following the mastectomy, the only reason being I may need radiotherapy depending on the results of the pathology tests taken during surgery. If there hadn’t been that potential in the mix I would have opted for immediate reconstruction surgery.
My reasoning for wanting reconstruction as soon as possible is so that I can just get everything done and move on sooner rather than later.
Why are you thinking about postponing reconstruction surgery?
Do you have your surgery date yet?
Hi iam the other way round was diagnosed in May and HER2 positive. I have had a full mastectomy on my left breast and right breast surgery at the same time on the 20th June so just pist surgery a week ago. I opted to go flat with possible reconstruction later if I felt at any point I wanted it bit is purely personal choice and for me I didn't want it. My next is the chemotherapy and herceptin injections for 12 months but again waiting for when this will start following my surgery first. All I can say to you is go with your gut reaction and how you feel personally. You will make the right choice gor you
Well I was with my consultant today and they now feel a lumpectomy first, run all the tests and hopefully won't have to have a second surgery to remove the full breast, am heading back for more chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy , I just thought it would be to much trying to heal and if I needed a implant it could he affected by the radiotherapy
I'm due in for surgeryon the 25th of July now ,
I hope your doing well
