I has a lumpectomy and radiotherapy for high grade DCIS at age 49 16 years ago. I have recently been diagnosed with a large area of DCIS in the same area and now facing a mastectomy and reconstruction.

my consultant said I am very unlucky to have a reoccurrence after 16 years. I will not be able to under go radiotherapy this time.

I am very overwhelmed with this news and wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation.

  • Hi Clarabella. I'm sorry you have found yourself going through this again.  I am in a similar situation to you. DCIS in 2010 age 52 and now invasive cancer in same breast. I had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy and the consultant told me after 10 years he wouldn't expect to see me again. Mastectomy ard reconstruction in three weeks time followed by chemotherapy.  I'm HER2 positive as well which wasn't tested last time. It's very overwhelming and daunting but so glad it's been caught now and my treatment scheduled. I need it gone! Good luck to you

  • Hi Tapdancer

so sorry to hear you are in a similar situation to me. I am seeing the plastic surgeon this week & likely to have the operation mid June so around the same time as you.
I feel the same I just want those dodgy cells gone.

Hope it all goes smoothly for you and keep me posted.

  • Of course . Good luck with your appointment this week, we will be on the recovery road together!
