Treated for early breast cancer 17 years ago but mutilated by surgery and radiotherapy.Told could have reconstruction as right , treated , side shrinking A cup and left E.

now told too much damage caused by radiotherapy ( got five whole weeks at that time because I was told to..) and risk of failure 99%.

Got fitted with industrial strength bra and had allergic reaction to latex prosthesis.Cant wear a bra so destined forever to be a shapeless parody ,wearing crop tops.Clothes don’t fit.

And I still have neuropathic pain .Wish I’d never gone for a mammogram…

  • Can't you wear the spongy type prothesis, or a soft wooly one to give you some balance?

I would have hoped that there are other materials available that you could tolerate x

  • I had a left mastectomy in May last year without reconstruction and was given a softie to wear until I could be fitted with a silicone prosthetic when healed enough I also purchased one from boost but find the most comfortable one is the softie it is filled with cotton wool so can adjust it fit.

i am still tender  and have a lot of numbness where lymph note was removed.

sorry you are still having problems. Xxx

  • Hi. Firstly wow 17 years cancer free is amazing, were/are you on any medications? We don’t hear many stories like this so very interesting to hear how people remain cancer free for so long.

Are you saying you had 5 weeks worth of radiotherapy? I understood that regardless of what treatment you had you could always have diep flap surgery. If you don’t have enough fat for that then I understood you could still have implants but you would need a tissue expander first and it done in two stages. I would definitely speak with your breast care nurse/consultant and get a second private opinion.

In relation to your bra, I bought a crop top style bra from Amazon and bought some light weight pads and insert them in and both breasts look even in tight tops. I didn’t get a prosthesis as I found this worked well, was confortable and light weight.
