Hello. Just curious to know (I like to be learning all the time), did you all have the oncotype dx test and if so, what was your score and your age and type of breast cancer.

Mine was 26 and I am 41 years old. My friend had the exact same cancer at the exact same time (we compared notes), (only difference mine was grade 3 and hers was grade 2). Her score was 6 and she is 67 years old. Strange that it’s such a big difference. FYI we both had her2 negative and same PR/ER status.

My oncologist said she would have recommended chemo regardless of the score number because of the grade of it. However she said they didn’t know by how much the risk of recurrence is reduced by after having chemo though which is bizarre.

  • Hi!

I'm (im)patiently waiting for my oncotype results right now.  Oncology apt next Tuesday will be 3wks in so fingers crossed!

Can you remember how long your results took?

I did quiz my oncologist if he could make an educated guess at my result but said absolutely not & it'd be a fudge of an guess. I suppose it'll come down to the genes.

  • I was told my result would be back in 2 weeks and I rang at the end of the second week and they said they weren’t in yet. I had an initial appointment already booked for the following week with the oncologist anyway so I didn’t chase again and just waited to see her and she did have it then and confirmed what it was and the treatment plan.

I hope you get yours asap and it’s a low score. I prayed every day that mine would be low, couldn’t believe it was in the higher bracket now worried for recurrence forever.

  • Also, yes they can’t guess really. My bcn said it’s hard to say what the score is but her 2 negative is a really good cancer she said.

If it’s so good then why does it have a high recurrence rate on oncotype dx then Rolling eyes

  • Evening

  • Yes I had my second session of chemo yesterday. I am having 9 weekly sessions of taxol and carboplatin then I’m having 3 weekly sessions of EC aka Red Devil.

I’ve been feeling ok so far, had bad constipation last week but they have given me medication for that this week which is good. I’ve still been working 3 days a week and going to my weekly Pilates class and walking every day.

  • That's brilliant listen! Hope you can keep that up (but because you can & want to, not cos you have to Kissing heart)

  • Thank you! I really hope so too Fingers crossed tone1

Good luck with your oncologist appointment next week and let me know how you get on xx

  • I had grade 3 breast cancer in 2020, it had spread into one of my 17 lymph nodes (they could only confirm this after removal), my cancer was 22mm - it didn't show up on a mammogram but I found a lump.  My onco dx score was 16 and I was 49.  Under 50 this would usually call for chemo but I was due to turn 50 in 3 months and covid had just hit so they were trying to avoid chemo.  I have seen a private consultant since as the nhs will only do a mammogram and my cancer did not show up on this.  The private consultant does an ultrasound and mri.  He was extremely surprised given the grade that I hadn't had chemotherapy but I think this was mainly due to covid.  My roomie had a lump above her breast and she had a score of 24 and had to have chemo.  I really hope it goes well for you and wish you all the best. My dx took three weeks.

  • Thank you! My consultant has also mentioned he'll be requesting mri in future as my mammogram was clear also (& Im private too). Those things are torture though Hear no evil but I'm hoping 2nd time around we'll at least know what to expect. Xx
