Hello Pawsitively Am sorry to read your post. It’s such a shock getting a cancer diagnosis, totally overwhelming with so much to process, particularly with a positive brca test. I was diagnosed in October and also felt very guilty about bringing so much difficulty into the lives of my family (especially with my son doing his GCSEs this year). But of course the truth is that it obviously isn’t our fault. It’s a shock for everyone to process but you will all find a way through this. I really recommend getting some support either from your bcn or calling a nurse from here - they have so much experience and will absolutely understand how you are feeling and help you. I have found this forum really supportive too, just knowing there are others going through something similar.
sending a hug x
Hi Pawsitively,
Welcome to the forum. I alsofelt guilty of what I was going to put my family through with the shock of cancer and treatment. My oldest daughter died 13 years ago aged 30 from breast cancer. I could see the fear in my son and daughters face.
However we all rallied round. I kept them informed. They supported me. I have 2 teenage grandsons who didn't say too much and a 10 and 5 year old who were very interested and helpful. The wee ones helped cut my hair when it was falling out.when I was lying on the sofa not feeling so good they would come and cuddle in.
I finished my treatments in October last year and were now planning a family holiday together.
They will feed on your strength and resilience, they will also care for you at times when needed. There is also good family bonds built during the treatments. I learned to talk and keep them informed.
I wish you well in your recovery. Sending hugs xx
