Initially I was going to have a lumpectomy, but the grade 2 lump was attached to the skin and distorted most of the breast. The biopsy showed cancer was Oestrogen based and Her2 +. I am now recovering after the mastectomy 4 days ago, with an Activac pump dressing attached. I am managing ok with paracetamol for pain relief and started with the 1st week's exercises. The dressing will be reviewed in a week's time, presumably to remove it. I am a bit worried how that will feel and what it will be replaced with.
I’ve had a left mastectomy.
They changed my dressing one week later then the following week removed it all. Let it heal on its own without anything.
It was fine. Everything just drops off naturally like the stitches and glue when you wash.
Pain was okay for me.
I originally had DIEP and the stomach wound hurt a lot more then the mastectomy site.
Good luck xx
Thank you, that's given me some reassurance. Fortunately I didn't have DIEP surgery, so hopefully it'll heal quickly. Xx
Hey, I too had a left side mastectomy 10 days ago. I chose a mastectomy over a lumpectomy as had a small her2 positive lump. I am waiting results to see if it has spread to the lymph glands. My drain did not work for a couple of days so had a new one attached. It was removed after 7 days and didn’t really hurt. I did not get a dressing but was glued together, so the wound is a bit crusty and itchy but otherwise healing ok. I was happy to get the drain out so I could move about and go out!
hope you are ok, I am desperate to start driving and gain my independence.
take care xx
Sorry to hear about your stage of cancer. Sounds like you've been through a lot. I'm hoping mine has been caught early, but won't know for a few weeks.
I had mine for atheist 9 months my doctor said it was due to hormones then I noticed not a lump but painfull hardness tumer was stage 2 by then and after mastectomy stage 3 cos in lymph nodes
I was given a pressure dressing with a pump to carry round instead of a drain. This seems to be working well with no seepages. This is being checked on Friday so not sure if it will be removed or replaced with a different dressing. Hopefully I'll be able to go out and about soon afterwards. Just have to wait for test results re lymph glands too. Hope yours will be okay when you get yours. Take care xx
