Hi, I found a breast lump 3 years ago. It was mammogramed and had an ultrasound. I was told it was benign and just a cyst. They did not biopsy it.. The lump carried on bothering me so I went back to the dr who re-referred me over Xmas. I’ve now been diagnosed with a cluster of invasive ductal carcinomas in one breast. Surgeon told me the nipple will need to be removed. An MRI was arranged which showed a larger mass in the other breast, this one is invasive lobular carcinoma. There are 2 large masses measuring just over 13 cms and my lymph nodes are about involved. Worryingly my mammograms were both normal as I have dense breasts for my age (52). I’m overweight and speaking with my surgeon next week. I do have large breasts, I’m aware one breast has to be removed, I think because there are changes and a cancer behind the nipple on the other breast I want this one removed too (bilateral mastectomy). Can anyone advise me what reconstruction I could have? My BMI is sadly obese but I am healthy. I’m still in denial about this as I’m not ill. Sorry for such a long message I’m just still in shock :-( x
I’m so sorry that you have this news . It must be such a shock and a lot to deal with .
I have had cancer twice in the last 13 years , endometrial and breast , and currently being monitored for a late effect of Radiotherapy .
i have no direct experience of reconstruction but I just wanted to offer my support and all the good wishes in the world to you on your difficult journey .
Once you know exactly what’s happening you will be able to deal with it . You will be strong but you must practice looking after yourself in all ways . Try to exercise gently and eat healthily , drink lots of water and learn about deep breathing . All of this will keep you focused .
Sending lots of warmth and positive thoughts

I just wanted to say , sorry you find yourself here . I had similar , 18 months before my diagnosis ( dense breasts , clear mammogram ), I found a lump and was told it was a cyst . No biopsy but 18 months later diagnosed with 2cm lobular cancer that id referred myself as I’d seen a slight change in my breast skin . Same place as the “cyst”.
I don’t know about reconstruction but I’d say , whatever op you are having , try to get some exercise now, even if it’s only walking , as it will really help afterward both in body and mind.
the waiting is the worst
x
I’ll definitely give it a go. Thanks for you lovely supportive words x
