Hi. Visited breast clinic Monday, had 2 mamograms, US and biopsy. Told i probably had Fibroadenoma but did biopsy because of age. After reserch I am now worried. Anyone else had this

  • Hi  , I have had a selection of breast issues over the years. In my late 40s I had a fibroadenoma - they couldn’t identify it as such from the various scans and tests available then so I had a lumpectomy and its benign nature was finally revealed. But tests and scans nowadays can show much more, I’m sure. I had an inconclusive mammogram, ultrasound, needle biopsy and core biopsy. All came back as atypical but not conclusive. After the lumpectomy I was told it was a fibroadenoma (they are benign) and I had no further treatment or follow ups. After that I had other lumps which were cysts, so no action needed at all. And finally at 59 I found a ‘thickening’ which did turn out to be cancer. At the breast clinic they were sure from the mammogram and ultrasound that it was cancer. The biopsy confirmed it and also revealed its type.
Sorry long ramble but I just wanted to say that most lumps are not malignant and that it sounds like they’re being very thorough which is good. It’s positive that they think at this stage that it’s a fibroadenoma, and good that they want to confirm it by doing the biopsy. I’m not a medic but I think they don’t always even remove fibroadenomas these days? But obviously be guided by whatever they advise.
Sorry you have this horrible limbo of waiting to go through , I will be hoping that it’s short term and that they can confirm that it’s what they think. Love and hugs, HFxx

PS try not to Google!! Lots out there is out of date of just wrong. Xx
