Hi - I’m a week and a half in from having a lumpectomy and the removal of three nodes. Diagnosis to surgery was 10 days so it has been a whirlwind. I’m Grade 1, Level 2. Currently doing my best to rest which is hugely frustrating but torally understand that it is necessary - I don’t want to hamper recovery and delay radiotherapy in a few weeks. Whilst there isn’t much pain from the breast, it is the pain on my armpit which is driving me crazy. It seems to be catching on the support bra….i take it off for an hour a day to give me some relief but aside from changing the bra (which I don’t think I need to - it fits everywhere, it’s just catching my armpit scar in exactly the wrong place) can anyone recommend anything they’ve done to relieve the pain? Thank you x
Hi Housey, your journey sounds so similar to mine. I was three weeks from finding a lump to lumpectomy and having all my lymph notes removed. What type of brain are you wearing, they gave me a post durgery bra although they didn’t have my size so I had to alter it I found the lymph node extraction was by far the most difficult to manage, firstly with the drain as you have an open wound whilst thats needed and then afterwards with the healing. Once the wound has sealed I used bio oil as that stopped the itchy I had from the healing process. Also recommend dry shampoo and an electric razor. Once I could lift my arm I bought some sports style bras that were really flexible. I’ve actually never gone back and always wear sports bras now unless I’m wearing something that needs a different bra. I’m not sure that this post will have helped you but I find the biggest help from this group is knowing you’re not alone xxx
Hi, sorry you find yourself in the club nobody wants to be in. I also found the pain under the arm by far the worst!! It just nagged, nagged, nagged!!! If you have a pillow that people use on the plane for around their neck or a heart shaped pillow put it under your arm. It took 2 weeks until this left me. Hope you get some relief soon. Xx
Hi Housey
I put some extra padding in the side of my bra where I felt it was needed. This worked for me
Good luck xx
