Newly diagnosed triple negative breast cancer

I have just been diagnosed a few days ago with triple negative breast cancer. I am waiting for scans to see if it has metastasised as I already know it has spread to lymph nodes in my armpit as this is the first lump I felt.

i have pain in my armpit and now chest pain along with nausea and lightheadedness. I am hoping this is just a stress reaction but I can’t think of anything else and I have to wait until the 26th for my results.

So scared it has spread further and I will be given a terminal diagnosis. It’s my birthday next week and we were meant to be in Thailand celebrating so it has all come as a huge shock! I have no family history and I don’t drink or smoke. I like a health lifestyle and am only 44. I usually cope really well with stress but am struggling a lot with this!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • I’m glad. We were meant to go on Tuesday and I was to spend my birthday there but the consultant advised me to cancel Cry

  • Try no to fret too much about nausea and vomiting, it’s not a given. I suffer terribly from travel sickness but have had chemo twice without any nausea at all. If you are on chemo that’s given 3-weekly (eg EC), you will probably feel best in the 3rd week. I found it was helpful to go away for a few days during this week each time - only going a couple of hours or so away so I could easily get home if necessary. Weekly chemo (eg Paclitaxel) is probably less horrible but doesn’t allow recovery breaks either. Swings and roundabouts.

  • Thank you for the reassurance, it’s making me feel better

  • Did you manage to get out during the harder times of chemo? Even like lunch with friend/coffee shop/exercise etc?

  • Apart from 2 or 3 days each EC cycle, I lived fairly normally. I did see people, do some work, go to the gym. On Paclitaxel I lived fairly normally all the time (except for the week when I had diverticulitis).

  • Hi

I started my chemo treatment of Paclitaxel last Friday and had a severe reaction so it had to be stopped.  Really scared me and now waiting for Oncologist to decide how to proceed for next weeks infusion.  Any advice much appreciated.
