I've had breast cancer and a mastectomy, it's been a year May I had my operation, followed by chemo and radiotherapy, I no longer have cancer however I feel like getting over it is the hardest bit, I feel lost, I feel like I've lost myself, I have no confidence anymore and my self esteem is rock bottom is it normal to feel like this.
Thank you
Angela
I am almost 4 months post op. And I totally get how you feel. It is like you are living another life that isn't yours and you just want to get on with your life bit you can't xx.
Hoping we will get through this together xxx
Hi AngelaP , lovely replies already, hopefully you are at least feeling that others are affected this way too - you’re not alone. I just wanted to pop in to add my support, and to mention an article that I’ve found really helpful over the years. Hope the link works… ok I can’t seem to copy the link. It’s called After the Treatment Finishes - Then What by Dr Peter Harvey. It’ll come up if you Google it. Well worth a read, I think. Love and hugs, HFxx
I feel the same. My surgery/chemo/radiotherapy finished 8 weeks ago and everyone is pleased for me, my mum said I could draw a line under it now, but instead I feel so low and fatigued and am trying to walk each day but the fitness level isn't returning. Am putting on a smile for everyone and trying to work but didn't think it would feel like this now and not sure how long it will take to feel better
I have that booked for June x glad to hear it is worth going too
I’ve just completed the Fatigue workshop and found it really helpful and it was good to sit with others who are going through what you are going through and who feel the same as you do. I actually came away feeling more “normal” than I have in months. Also doing the Moving Forward course in June in Romford.
Hi, I think many people who've never had treatment completely underestimate the post cancer treatment phase. There's a simple expectation that we are suddenly “better” and it can be so different to how we're really feeling, so yes, I think your response right now is pretty normal. You might want to think about chatting to the lovely folks here at Macmillan and getting some advice, the number is 0800 808 0000.
Macmillan also provide specialist counselling for cancer patients, which can be really useful in just talking about the experience and getting some tips on how to cope. I know many people who have found this helpful. There's some more information here if you are interested. Support Information
Best wishes
