Hi all

I was diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer early December and still finding it hard to get my head around it all at times. I had two operations in Feb (a lumpectomy plus re-incision two weeks later as more cancer cells were found and had bad swelling due to infection).  My incision was an upside down curve around top of nipple and it seems to have really indented. Also has what looks like white flaky skin or glue maybe??

Has anyone had this issue ref the indentation and flaking?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello and welcome to the club no one wants to join.  As we all react individually I would ring your breast care nurse and ask her to check your healing xx

  • Thanks, just wasn’t sure to bother them with something that seemed fairly trivial.
I must admit I’d hoped I would never be in this situation. (As most of us on here probably do!)

  • Hi, sorry you find yourself on this journey.  I too had two surgeries because margins weren’t clear.  I too have an indentation in my right nipple and no feeling in it.

    1. Hi,thanks for replying & sorry to hear you’re having to go through this too.
So maybe that indentation could be normal then. Doesn’t look particularly nice with it ‘caving in’ like that does it! I’m really hoping it will look normal over time. Mine isn’t numb though. Had second surgery 19th Feb (first 2nd Feb).
  • Bother them.  My BCN was amazing,  Told me she was my advocate and nothing too trivial.  xx

  • Always phone and question if you aren't sure about anything especially if the wound is still healing.   You could be right with the glue being what is the flaky bit.  I had a mastectomy and my wound took 10 weeks to heal with having to go back in the hospital 4 weeks after he operation to have it closed back up.

  • Hi - I had surgery in February , two small tumours in left breast. I also have an upside down curved scar and a dent in my breast . I spoke to my breast care nurse and she said that it can take up to 12 months for a breast to settle after surgery . Some of the dent will naturally fill over this time but will not completely disappear / I hope this helps

  • Hi

I had lumpectomy for ILC 10 days ago . My dressing will come off on Wednesday. My incision is at the side of my breast .
Surgeon said that I may be left with a dent , as they remove tissue . They do “ backfill but I suppose there is only so much they can do but I’d definitely ask your BCN . It’s not trivial x

  • Hi Grogg

Ok thanks, I’ll contact them xx

  • Hi, that sounds unpleasant for to have that done again.

I’m due to visit hospital a lot over coming week as I start chemo soon so I’ll mention it then.
