Greetings all,I had my mastectomy 2weeks ago,my consultant said he would see me 2weeks after the operation. I have to wait another 3weeks,is that usual?it seems a long time to wait for the results 5weeks.I would be most grateful if anyone could help alleviate my anxiety. Many thanks.Manethral.

  • Hi,

I was told I'd have an appointment in 2 weeks, but it was just over 3 weeks. Looking at the NHS app, my results were not completed at 2 weeks, so it was a good thing for me - the full results were in and had been discussed by the MDT. You could always ring your breast nurse specialist for advice if you are concerned about the time. It might be that it will take a bit longer because of Christmas. That said, I waited over 4 weeks for the initial results as that was when the first appointment was available.

I hope you are recovering well and best of luck when you do get your results.

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I think my cancer is complicated, so it will probably take longer for all the results to come through. Just me panicking.

  • I think tbh, they try and wait for the histology and MDT plan as well as assessing the wound, so can be about 4 weeks. (That's what I'm bracing myself for) I'm 1 week post op.

I suppose even in the world of cancer, resources are precious

  • Thanks vibby,I think waiting is the worse part of the process but it takes as long as it takes I guess. I do hope you're results will be speedy and favourable. Very best wishes, Manethral.
