Hi all

I was diagnosed at the end of October with  grade 1 breast cancer, caught very early with a routine mamagram. I then saw the consultant a week later who confirmed that I would have a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy.

I've now had my lumpectomy and am home resting ( anaesthetic messed me up for 24hours). It's not even a month since diagnosis so how the hell do you get your head round it. I haven't even had time to get scared or cry. Does anyone else feel the same? It's a whirlwind

  • Hi Tash150, and welcome to the forum.  Sorry you have recently been diagnosed, but pleased you have had your lumpectomy now.  It is not easy at all to get your head around all this.  It certainly takes time and to be honest you just go through the diagnosis, treatments, op’s etc. because you have too. You do learn to accept it all and do feel relieved when it is over.  I did not cry at all, which I found very strange, but maybe that’s your own mind dealing with it like that, I don’t know.  I had down days I must admit, but just got through it best I could.  I wish you well with any further treatment.  Use the forum, it is definitely a great place for info and support.  Sending hugs x

  • Definitely felt like I was just being led from one appointment to the next with no time to breathe.

It's just a shock to have all this happen in 4 weeks from start to finish. But on a very positive note 4 weeks is amazing as were all the medical staff

  • Yes it does feel like that. You certainly feel you don’t have time to breathe.  The nhs staff are amazing I have to agree.  We are lucky in that sense that it all happens pretty quick once diagnosed.  Xx

  • Hi Tash150

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  It can be hard to get your head around it some days particularly when thing happen quickly.  I usually find it's best to take things a day at a time, cry when you need to and get angry at the situation if you need to as well and keep coming on here for support whenever you need it.

Wishing you the best of luck with whatever comes next for you.

    Best wishes
