Hi. New here. Yesterday I got the confirmation it is breast cancer (everything pointed towards that but I needed the biopsy results for the official diagnosis which I got yesterday). Stage 2/3 estrogen positive. Hep negative. I'm going to be put into a medically induced menopause which is actually an answer to prayers because they had told me I would have to stop the medication which controls my nightmare periods & menstrual cycle triggered nightmare IBS so I was terrified of having to go back into that hell. I'm only perimenopausal naturally. My response when they told me this at the mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy and see a consultant 1st appointment had me immediately ask for a hysterectomy. They didn't tell me about the existence of injections to induce menopause till yesterday's appointment. The cancer itself hasn't spread & appears to be likely to be cured by surgery. So not all that scary. May have to be done under local as I'm high risk for general anithetics which means they won't be able to take the lymph node out.
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but good that the prognosis is good. I’m also new here and learning a lot from others and drawing my strength from others to be honest. It’s really helping in many ways to be on this forum. May I ask what makes you high risk to general anaesthetic? I ask because I am also concerned of having this as I have never been under general anaesthetic in my life. I am diabetic with high blood pressure hence why I am worried but the BCU don’t seem to have any concerns around this.
best wishes
They haven't actually said other than its my medical history and my obesity. I suspect that includes my diabetes and my high blood pressure and it could include that I am over 50.
I was still in the terrified about my periods coming back in between the initial appointment and diagnosis confirmation stage when I actually signed up for the account
I was 51 when diagnosed.
Had coil taken out over two months ago as advised and thankfully no period so far.
I was so worried about periods restarting as they ruined my life as so very painful and debilitating.
I have had one round of chemo so far and am doing ok.
Turns out they need to turn my ovaries off anyway as my breast cancer is oestrogen sensitive and I'm only perimenopausal not post menopausal. That will deal with my nightmare periods & stop my menstrual cycle triggering severe IBS (worse than even antibiotics trigger). The only trigger that is that bad.
