Hello all.

Introducing myself isn't something that comes easily to me at the best of times. I've always been very reticent with my feelings so opening up to others, even anonymously like this, feels unnatural.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer around a month ago and I'm having a unilateral mastectomy with axillary clearance on Monday.

Up until now it's all felt very unreal. I think there are questions I should be asking but I don't know what they are. I don't know what I'm feeling most of the time. To be honest, I don't really feel much of anything, it's just something that is happening to me.

I'm kind of lost for words right now, I have so many things spinning round in my head and my brain can't settle on any one thing.

Hi Milgi,

I had a mastectomy 3 weeks ago… it will be fine, don’t worry, from my experience I was just so relieved to have the damned cancer removed from my body, and the wait is awful I know. It’s step one to recovery, that’s what I keep telling myself.

I had one stage two cancer, one stage 3 and 3 stage zero in my breast… it’s devastating, and the shock takes time to adjust to. I now have a break while they send lab samples to America to see what radiotherapy/chemotherapy I need… it’s really scary stuff.

I find I’m getting through it by not reading too much about it, just try to stay as pitas possible, it’s not going to help anyone if you fall into depression, you have to stay strong to help you fight it, and keep physically strong. Try to eat well (I know that’s easier said than done) but try, it’s important… lots of vit c and water will help healing when you have operation… good luck, just keep remembering that science improves all the time, and they are really successful with treatments now. Xxx
