Hi, new on here, I have finally finished my chemo and waiting to start Radiotherapy, I’ve also had single breast Mastectomy.  One of my biggest symptoms after each chemo was very bad bowel pain, since finishing chemo it’s even worse and not settling down.   Anyone else had this and how did you cope with the excruciating pain? I’m neither constipated or have diarrhoea but constantly feel I need to go!

  • have you asked for a referral for colonoscopy

  • They have checked it out and just tell me it’s fine and will take time to get better, in the mean time I need some relief. Pensive

  • Hi there

oh no I’m sorry you’re in so much discomfort and I’m glad you’ve been checked out

I have IBS and during chemo and after I finished my bowel issues flared up . I take probiotics and they literally are a game changer ( I couldn’t take them during chemo and boy did I miss them !)

Maybe check with your team first but lots of people take them

I use symprove and biomel and honestly the difference is unbelievable . I did used to have kimchi and kefir but they make my symptoms worse with the medication I am currently on

Also for general relief you could try peppermint capsules / tea , be careful of your fibre intake , keep your fluids up , drink plenty of water ,  try and keep active if you can and if you have painful cramps I use buscopan

    xx

  • Thank you Dollydimple for you lovely message.  My husband has been to get me some probiotics today.   I will be giving this a go. X
