Hi all , I have just had my routine mammogram last week and received a recall letter to go in this Friday , I’m scared to death , 10 years ago I found a lump and a biopsy was done which was found to be a fibrodaema , they left it as said it’s ok to leave , would they compare the mammogram from 10 years ago ? Thanks all

    1. Hi Wendy welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear how worried that you are but I can relate to it as I remember it well when I was recalled from mine. Its scarey and uncertain and those 2 things combined send our thoughts into overdrive and little wonder..They have obviously seen something that they want to have a better look at and despite being recalled you are being seen by the expertsHeart. I imagine that they may do another mammogram on the day, they may do an ultrasound if what they are seeing is not clear enough on the mammogram. Be prepared for them to possibly take biopsies to find out for sure what this could be. This could yet turn out to be something perfectly innocent but it is much better to have this checked out fully. We are here for you to chat to whenever you need. Please do keep in touch and let us know how you get on as we will be thinking of you. X
  • Sorry to hear you've found yourself in this situation, it's never easy to deal with cancer scare! They most certainly will compare your mammograms and if still not sure, you'll most probably have another mammogram which will give them a clearer idea of what they might have found suspiciously looking. You might also have a biopsy which sounds scary, but it is not - I personally didn't feel a thing. Don't overthink the whole thing, it still might be nothing too serious. Try to distract yourself and fingers crossed for Friday! Sending you a big hug! xx

  • Thank you both , I did have a biopsy 10 years ago so understand how it all works , just wondered if the radiologist would have compared this one with the one 10 years ago ? Thank you

  • Thank you so much x

  • Technology has improved in 10 years and they do more magnifying mammograms at recalls.  I was recalled 2015 for calcification and after biopsy one area benign.  Then 2 years ago back on routine and recalled.  They wanted magnified imagining to check stability of calcifications to my 2015 mammogram as they said they like to monitor closely.   All was stable .  Good luck x

  • That’s good to know carol , thank you , just so worried, I feel sick all the time and thinking the worse . X

  • Hi there

I’m sorry you’re feeling so scared , it’s completely understandable. I had a fibroedema noted in a mammogram in 2016 , in 2022 they noted the same thing but because at this point I had cancer in the other breast , they took a closer look , I had it biopsied and it turned out to be benign but they still removed it by WLE at the same time as I had my mastectomy which I 100 % agreed with “ just in case “

I know you are worried , they may well do a biopsy this time to double check and if they do , it’s completely normal and a benign result would put your mind at rest

    hugs xx

  • Thank you , we’ll see on Friday and I’ll tell you how it goes , you’re all so kind on here xx

  • Hope today went well and you got some answers xx

  • Hi carol ,

yes it went ok , it looks like the fibrodaema has grown over the 10 years I had my last mammogram, so they did a biopsy and will need to go Thursday for the results , the radiologist said it’s nothing to worry about , but they may move it , thank you for asking about me and I feel so much better now I know why they recalled me xx
