Possible rare symptom from radiation to lungs

Hi all,

I hope everyone is coping with their journey and feeling OK today.

As I said I had no telephone appointment with the oncologist yesterday and told her of my symptoms which like many of you had felt were perfectly normal and just the healing process which can take  mang months. I also told her of a slight dry cough I keep experiencing along with slight shortness of breath when maybe walking quite s while or a little hill/ slope, generally noticing a difference with my chest when doing things.

Apparently this can be caused by radiation and is where you get temporary inflammation of the lung behind the breast. She said she would request an x Ray for this Monday coming , then called back 5 mind Kate and said she had spoken with another Dr and they have said to request a ct scan.

Obviously now as you can all probably guess, i am petrified that the cancer is in my lungs! Silly I know, but do not want yo say this to any of my family so just having a little wobble on here.

Also , now it's the waiting game again, waiting for the appointment,  then the results!

Thank you for listening. Love and strength to you all xxx

  • Everything we do ends up creating pressure, esp when it involves Hospitals and this condition. A great platitude is don't worry until you know what to worry about. I have heard of side effects of radiation affecting the lungs and sometimes heart.

I do get very tired sometimes which affects everything. I am building up to exerting myself tomorrow. My radiotherapy was at the end of Feb. The skin has flared up with swimming and the boob hurts after dancing. I went back twice with concerns it was returning. But no... It was me worrying about it. For me the brain magnified my symptoms. It's powerful this brain if ours, hopefully you will get the right result and if not, an explanation with advice and help attached.

    Hope is eternal. Xx

  • Thank you Sabrina22. I hope swimming and dancing get better for you xxx

  • I had those symptoms and my ct scan was clear if that helps reassure you it can be the radiotherapy treatment

  • They are minor, it doesn't stop me. Keep going, walking, whatever is right for you x

  • Ah thank you Dc6, did they see radiation damage on your scan? X Are you better now? X
